Wim van Passel’s Timeless Moments website www.tijdlozemomenten.nl chronicles his many adventures traversing the world to photograph our last remaining unspoiled regions
He donates his photographs to the World Wide Fund (WWF), an international organization devoted to wilderness preservation, to bring awareness to the dire need to protect the world’s wildlife.
“Without the indispensable support of HP this “Timeless Moment” project would never have developed,” says Van Passel. His latest adventure was to the beautiful and inhospitable Atacama Desert in Chile. The desert’s hypersaline lagoons are an invaluable natural resource and contain some of the world’s richest lithium deposits, a mineral essential for lithium batteries. As the world shifts to renewables, the demand for lithium is expected to double. Indigenous people are fighting its extraction, arguing it is disrupting the natural environment.
